Grand opening dedication 9 am-10 am at Congress Street & Fifth Avenue. Expect 2000+ attendees. Be aware of special event road closures and travel restrictions. Prepare for hot weather. No backpacks due to security.

Enjoy 3 days of free rides! Free Sun Link rides are available from approximately 10 am July 25 through July 27, 8 pm. Unlimited free rides all along the 4-mile route. No SunGo needed. As needed, Sun Tran will have connector busses traveling the Sun Link route to transport overflow crowds – so everyone gets a chance to ride. Volunteers will be available to assist. Portable facilities and water stations will be along the route.

There are 1,200+ ParkWise on-street meters along the corridor. Free all weekend and after 5 pm, Monday – Friday.

And remember -- Select merchants offer parking validation. Ask about it.

Get the Most Out of Free Sun Link Rides, July 25-27

3 Days to Ride FreeFree Sun Link rides kick off as soon as the system is officially dedicated on Friday morning – about 10 am. Here are some tips to taking advantage of the free streetcar rides that connects you to a new way to travel and many new destinations.

Remember, during Sun Link Free Ride Days, July 25-27

  • Free Sun Link rides are on a first come, first serve basis
  • Get on/off the streetcar at any Sun Link stop
  • No SunGO Card, Ticket, or Transfers will be required to ride Sun Link (You will need a SunGo Card, Ticket, or Transfer starting July 28!)
  • Streetcar volunteers will be on-hand along the route to assist and answer questions
  • Riders may be asked to exit the streetcar at the east or west ends of the route to give everyone a chance to ride. (Get in line for another streetcar ride or catch a free Sun Tran connector bus.)
  • Free rides on special Sun Tran connector busses will be available, as needed, to handle overflow crowds. Connector busses will travel along the Sun Link route
  • There will be bottled water stations and portable potties along the Sun Link route
  • Prepare for the weather -- use sunscreen and wear a hat

Check out the restaurants and shops along the streetcar corridor. Many will be offering special streetcar discounts during opening weekend.

July 25: 4 Ribbon Cuttings & 1 Grand Opening
Kicks Off 3 Days of Free Rides

Friday, July 25, 2014 kicks off Sun Link service with a short, 15-minute ribbon cutting at four different district streetcar stops, followed by a grand opening. The public is invited to attend any of these events.
